I am having trouble using Auto-Rout. Is there any other way to generate routed paths?

Yes, a Routed path is just a line, arc or trace with a tool number assigned - so there are many ways to create Routed paths.
Auto-Rout is just a collection of several commands that can be performed individually; and there will be times when Auto-Rout can be ineffective due to certain border geometries limitations, etc.
Here's a brief list of the internal commands performed by Auto-Rout
Detect PCB Border (Automatic)
Convert a Layer to NC Rout
Change Rout: Direction
Change Rout: Compensation
Here's how to generate Rout borders without using Auto-Rout:
After Importing your PCB, please perform the following:
1. Go to menu: Fabrication > Detect Border (Automatic)
Note: This command generates or fixes existing border layers.
2. Go to menu: Fabrication > Convert NC Layers > Convert Layer to Rout...
Note: Make sure to enter Tool Size you required for converted rout paths.
3. Open the NC Editor.. (menu: Windows > NC Editor) and now you will notice there's arrows and plunge/retract symbols.
Perform optional Rout editing (if needed):
To change Rout Path direction go to menu: Tools > Change Rout: Direction
To change Rout Path Compensation (Left or Right) go to menu: Tools > Change Rout: Compensation
To add Rout Tabs, go to menu: menu: Tools > Insert Tab...
Note: You may perform any type of editing on Routs such as mirror, copy, rotates, etc.
Here's a tutorial video (no sound) showing all the steps performed:
