I tried to apply netlist on my design and it reported errors.

Apply Netlist will use Net names from an external IPC file and apply them on the imported Gerber files. Apply Netlist will not work correctly, if the PCB hasn't yet had the netlist extracted and passed Netlist comparison to ensure the electrical integrity is good. If your design is error free (pass Netlist comparison) than you may successfully apply the IPC netlist file to your existing design.
