When I merge few projects in one panel is there any way to also merge the Pick&Place files?

I use Orcad PCB Designer Standard and I generate Pick&Place in .rpt file. When I merge few projects in one panel is there any way to also merge the Pick&Place files?

Thanks for your question.

FAB 3000 supports hierarchy, so all you need to do is import the PNP file for each job, and when you export from the panel everything will be automatically updated & merged.  Since you have Orcad, you actually have three solutions to export PNP for any entire panel:

Using Centroid (PNP file):

  1. Go to each job by selecting their tab.
  2. Import the PNP file for each job.  Go to menu: File / Import / Centroid..., and load the centroid file. Go to menu: Assembly / Convert External Centroid (to components).
  3. Go back to panel, and export everything from the Panel (menu: File / Export)

Note:  Here's a few user posts showing how to import Centroid Files.  If you have difficulties importing the Orcad PNP please send it to me and I'll create a template for you:

Using IPC-356 netlist file:

Note:  The IPC-356 netlist file already contains component information (i.e. PNP):

  1. Import the IPC netlist file for each job
  2. Go to menu: Assembly / Convert External IPC Netlist (to components)..
  3. Go back to panel, and export everything from the Panel (menu: File / Export)

Here's a blog we recently wrote about importing an IPC Netlist and converting to components.

Using ODB++ file:

Note:  The ODB++ file already contains component information (i.e. PNP).

  1. Create new Job(s) and import the ODB++ into each.
  2. Perform Panelization (as you have already done)
  3. Go back to panel, and export everything from the Panel (menu: File / Export)

It's quite a bit of information, so let me know if either works for you.

Best regards,
Simon
